Andrea launched her portfolio website in 5 days with Claude Code

Andrea Tan used Claude Code to build Designing the Wild, her portfolio website, while learning how AI-assisted coding works in practice.

Andrea works as a fractional GTM lead. Through this build, she started seeing how many marketing and communications tasks can be approached through code, Claude, and clearer process design.

The Problem Before Claude

Andrea wanted two things at once: a stronger brand front for her work, and a more grounded way to understand AI beyond tips, theory, or surface-level experimentation.

She was also thinking about a larger shift in how go-to-market work gets done. Marketing and communications are full of repeatable research, writing, synthesis, case study, and operations tasks. Andrea wanted to understand how those tasks could be mapped into AI-supported processes without forcing clients to change how they already work.

"I've realised that many marketing and communications tasks can be done via code or AI."

How Claude Helped

Claude helped Andrea understand technical issues as they came up and co-code the portfolio website with her. The process was not just about producing a finished site. It became a hands-on way to learn how to think with Claude Code.

As Andrea built, she connected her cross-functional industry experience with a more technical understanding of AI adoption. That helped her see how client processes can be forward deployed into AI workflows, instead of making AI adoption feel like an outside system imposed on the business.

What Changed

The biggest change was Andrea's mindset. Claude changed the way she thinks about adopting AI, using AI, and running work more efficiently.

Instead of treating AI as a distant tool for technical teams, Andrea now sees it as something marketing and communications leaders can practice with directly. The confidence came from building, debugging, and seeing a real website come together.

The Measurable Shift

Andrea launched her portfolio website in 5 days, including a weekend when she was sick.

She has also used Claude to build skills around marketing functions. One example: turning client questionnaire inputs into case studies in about 20 minutes instead of 2 weeks. Another: running research on Google Alerts and collating articles in about 5 minutes instead of 3 hours each day.

Her Advice for Women Getting Started

Andrea's advice is simple: practice.

Top tips can help, but confidence comes from doing the work yourself. Once you start practicing with Claude, the uncertainty gets smaller and your sense of what is possible gets much sharper.

"Practise, instead of listening to top tips only. Once you practise, the confidence gets better."
